The elevation of Her Majesty to the Throne, following the succession of her august predecessors, was the wish of long-standing Portuguese subjects who were devoted to legitimacy and the purity of the Royal lineage. Their continuous and fervent prayers were for the preservation of the same Throne for many years. Even in the remote corners of the world, such as Macau in China, with respect to Portugal, we would not claim to be unaware of the great debt that Her Majesty owes to Religion and its ministers. Your Majesty, without a doubt, is the Guardian Angel bestowed by Providence to protect the Portuguese and Christians during these calamitous times. To dispatch personnel from this Institute to Macau to assist these struggling missions; His Majesty commands that they be given the College of St. Paul, which was formerly owned by the Ancient Jesuits, as a repository for many precious relics, and the remains of the first three bishops of China and Japan, along with the adjacent house to the aforementioned church. The maintenance of this property shall be supported by a Royal endowment of two hundred tael per annum for each individual. Additionally, the payment for a sacristan, twelve boys, and a sexton, as well as any other expenses required for the maintenance of the said church, as has been customary until the present day. The payment for another Reverend Father assistant who is no longer needed will cease.
