| Резюме: | This document comprises certified copies, dated 30 December 1842 and authenticated by António Joaquim Gomes d'Oliveira of the Secretariat of State for Foreign Affairs, of correspondence originating from the Portuguese Department of State for Naval and Overseas Affairs. The principal subject is the ecclesiastical jurisdiction and governance of the Diocese of Macau during a period of sede vacante following the death of a prelate. The papers record that a cleric named Henriques, having previously operated in the centre of the Diocese, withdrew to Macau and subsequently appointed a Vicar General and administrator. It is noted that the diocese was later governed by a Propagandist, Count Resi, and that the profession of Christianity remained clandestine in China. A further transcribed royal communication, dated 25 November 1841 from the Palace of Necessidades and signed by the Queen, commands the capitular vicar and the Reverend Chapter of the Cathedral of the City of the Holy Name of God of Macau to cede all spiritual jurisdiction without reservation. The collection also references a petition to the Sacred Congregation of the Propaganda Fide by an unnamed individual in Lisbon, who was prevented from returning to his bishopric, seeking to set forth the full extent of the Portuguese Crown’s Padroado rights in the diocese.
