The findings highlight the border's influence on various aspects of life, including shopping habits, housing choices, and labor market participation, while exploring how residents navigate differing regulatory systems. By focusing on the interplay between Macao's post-colonial status and its integration within the Pearl River Delta, the author argues that borderlanders develop unique intercultural skills and transborder personal networks. The article ultimately seeks to determine the extent to which a distinct transborder regional identity is emerging among Macao people, whose familial and historical ties to Guangdong continue to play a pivotal role in their spatial and social consciousness. This research contributes to the broader field of border studies by providing a specific analysis of the Macao-Zhuhai relationship, a context previously overshadowed by studies of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen border. |
