The methodology is based on a historiographic reading and on the critical reconstruction of the media and political context of Macau between 1868 and 1872, articulating it with the identification of possible registration routes (births, baptisms, and obituaries) and with the analysis of local governance, particularly the transition to the Viscount of São Januário. As a result, it is concluded that the problem of the "year of birth" should be treated as a limit case of incomplete circulation of sources, in which the credibility of the datum depends less on genealogical memories and more on the confrontation with available documentation and with the material conditions of news production. |
