Your Excellency has been pleased to forward to this Office a petition from Dom Luís de Almeida, a Magual (a term denoting a local intermediary or native official in Portuguese colonial administration), who states that he undertook a voyage to China aboard a *louara* (a type of small, shallow-draft vessel commonly employed in coastal and regional trade within the Portuguese Estado da Índia). This voyage took place during the tenure of Dom Luís Cadella (Governor of Macau, 1639–1640), under whose authority it was agreed that Dom Luís de Almeida should serve on said voyage in order to qualify for subsequent appointment to an official post—specifically, to enable him to ‘pronounce’ (i.e., assume formal office or exercise administrative authority) upon the successful completion of the voyage. Your Excellency, having granted assurance thereof, instructed that all mercês (royal grants or favours, including pensions, offices, or privileges conferred by crown authority) previously awarded to him be formally reissued in Your Excellency’s name. The petitioner, who had already embarked in accordance with the terms of his prior appointment as an *acadiz* (a trainee or cadet in the service of the Crown), now petitions Your Excellency to confirm his continued embarkation status as stipulated, and to issue a mandate ordering that the customary provision of *caluara* (a term referring to a fixed allowance in rice or other staple provisions, often granted to officials or personnel serving on official voyages) and *craçtem* (a variant spelling of *cracem*, meaning a lump-sum gratuity or bonus, frequently paid upon departure or completion of service) due for the said voyage be formally reissued in Your Excellency’s name.
