Pursuant to this case, it was ascertained that on the 22nd day of the first lunar month of the present year, an official notice (pai-hsing) was issued by the Magistrate of Xiangshan County concerning the same matter. Upon investigation, it was established that, during the preceding year, no foreign vessels—specifically those operating out of the Taiau (i.e., Macau) anchorage—had anchored in the waters off Shangxia Cun (‘Upper–Lower Village’); nor had any such vessels engaged in illicit activities—including the clandestine exchange of black lead (i.e., lead ore) for rice—within that maritime zone.
