description The article argues that the Chinese Revolution led by Sun Yat Sen (1895–1925), often explained through centers such as Hong Kong, must also be read from the Portuguese-Macanese dimensions which, though undervalued, were structural for his intellectual formation, mobilization networks, and the transnational circulation of ideas. The research adopts a historical-cultural approach along three axes: (1) situating Macao within its geopolitical and sociocultural context in the Pearl River Delta region (Lingnan/Guangdong), highlighting Luso-Western dynamics; (2) shifting the focus from the immediate episode of October 10, 1911 to Sun's broader trajectory, interpreting Macao as an initial window onto the world, a “crucible” of new ideas, a space for early Christian experiences, and a logistical and relay base for his revolutionary missions; and (3) reconstituting the impact of the Portuguese political environment—including the Revolution of October 5, 1910—and European-derived (social-democratic) ideologies on the republican imagination and on projects for a modern, unified, and free China. Drawing on episodes and military, political, and sociocultural turning points linked to Macao, the article concludes that the Sino-Lusophone exchanges conducted through the enclave were a decisive transnational “vector” in China’s political transformation.
