In the Council of 27 January 1645, at which the Imagem (image) was made, it was decided that the vessel should be commanded by Christovão Ferreira, in consideration of the importance of the Imagem, which was presented and which it was agreed should be used to continue the commerce of this kingdom with China. And since the matter was judged to be more easily resolved, the response to this request was granted by the Lordship (of the lands), although no effect was achieved due to the lack of a suitable captain to be appointed to the said vessel.
It seems to this Council that Your Lordship should be informed of the true execution of this resolution of Your Majesty, so that in the new year now beginning, this voyage might be undertaken in a vessel which is coming to the port and was purchased at Your Majesty's order, as the President of the Council states, and which is capable of carrying Christian art that may come from the Christians, and of bringing cargo, as they say, to the factory of the Viceroy in the House of India.
Since Christovão Ferreira, who had been appointed as captain of the *Nauio Glauia*, although he has experience for this, is now in poor health and has obtained a medical certificate to undertake this journey, it seems to the Council that he should be replaced by Diogo Dias Coimbra, his son-in-law, who comes from that city.
