Methodologically, the text is structured as a contribution to an interpretive catalog: it reconstructs trajectories, maps works and typologies (portraits, civil and military statuary, allegories, and religious figuration), and relates institutional reception (exhibitions, missions, decorations, and teaching positions) to strategies of aesthetic legitimation. The conclusion is that Raúl Xavier, despite his subsequent historiographical marginalization, constitutes a singular and little-studied case of Luso-Asian circulation of artistic repertoires, revealing how hybrid identities and visual grammars of European matrix are articulated in the art of the Estado Novo. |
