Don João Freire Cazal declares that, by virtue of the attached letter of presentation, His Majesty was pleased to appoint the supplicant to the dignity of Lord of the Cathedral Chapter of the Island of Macau in the State of India; and the supplicant, having paid for his appointment as an *armado com misto possuidor* [a historical fiscal designation indicating a combined civil-military officeholder entitled to certain revenues and jurisdictional privileges], has duly assumed the said dignity of Lord of the Cathedral Chapter, to which appertain, inter alia, the following rights and emoluments:

Mr João Freyre de Carvalho states—and this is confirmed by the attached certificate issued by Feliciano Velho Oldemberg, Secretary of the Order of Christ—that Your Most Illustrious Lordship has graciously ordered his presentation to the dignity of Canon of the Cathedral Chapter of the city of Macau, within the State of India, a post which has become vacant following the promotion of the previous incumbent to the dignity of Dean of the same Cathedral Chapter.
The Supplicant accordingly petitions to receive the stipend and emoluments attached to the said Canonry; and, should it be necessary, requests that Your Most Illustrious Lordship be pleased to issue a provisionary mandate (provisão de mantimento) enabling him to assume the office forthwith, in accordance with established administrative practice and the customary procedures of the Council.
Wherefore, Your Most Illustrious Lordship is respectfully entreated to direct that Your Legate be forthwith provided with such a provisionary mandate, and that the Supplicant be confirmed in, and Your Most Illustrious Lordship remain formally invested with, the aforementioned dignity of Canon of the Cathedral Chapter of the City of Macau in the State of India—a dignity to which Your Most Illustrious Lordship has already been appointed by Your Most Illustrious Lordship.

João Freire de Carvalho, His Illustrious Lordship, who, by divine grace and royal mandate, holds the dignity of Canon of the Cathedral Chapter of the City of Macau in the State of India, having paid the requisite fees for his promotion to the said Canonry within the same Chapter, was accordingly advanced to the dignity of Dean of that Cathedral Church of Saint Paul. A letter of presentation was issued on 7 April of the present year, signed by the Most Reverend Dom António de Almeida, Bishop of Macau, on 2 May 1729.
