The proposal is methodologically developed as an essay-constellation: it mobilizes excerpts from nine interviews conducted between June 2013 and November 2014 with architects, researchers, and university professors, privileging an “internal” reading of the tensions between rupture and continuity, between aesthetic hybridism and structural uncertainty. By articulating remembrance and forgetting, the text interprets the coexistence of styles and the interplay of dream and reality as traits of the territory’s urban and social configuration. Among the main conclusions, it stands out that the “revivification” of past architectures functions less as nostalgia and more as a strategy of negotiation with the city’s current needs—simultaneously creating disciplinary frictions and cultural, political, and social reconfigurations. Thus, the nine voices do not merely describe recent changes; they produce an interpretative cartography of contemporary Macau as a context of existentiality marked by unpredictability. |
