The text explores the tension between the narrative of a technological "global village" and the reality of the structures of social and worldwide division of labour that keep vast populations on the margins of development. It concludes that historiography must recover the temporal density and spatial dynamics of Euro-Asian relations in order to overcome Eurocentric views that reduce global development to a mere *imitatio occidens*, underlining the need to understand globalisation as a long-term historical process marked by structural inequalities. |
