| Summary: | Programme presented by Helena Balsa, about Macau, framing the 400 years of relations between Portugal and China, with Macau as the entrepôt and gateway for Western trade. The façade of the Ruins of St. Paul's, a Christian symbol of the Portuguese and missionary presence in the Far East, is a true altarpiece of Christian and Jesuit iconography, mixed with touches of Oriental figures and topped by the unification of the Holy Spirit. It represents the Jesuit proselytism that adapted doctrine to local culture. This is a relationship of cultural exchange and mutual enrichment that endured and that art still reflects today. The challenge of the transition to the handover of the territory of Macau to China is to guarantee the continuity of Macau's cultural specificity and of the Macanese communities.
