It was represented, through documents bearing Your Majesty's authority and with zeal for my loyal and fitting service, that I should presently avail myself of the peace which was concluded with the Republic of England, to seek out English ships which, in accordance with the terms of the Capitulation, might pass from here to China with merchandise and return with other goods from thence to the Kingdom; and how in that region [the trade] is today much weakened on account of the Portuguese, and rendered almost impossible by the opposition of the Dutch, who do not spare the English, with whom they have concluded peace. Let the Overseas Council state what occurs to them on this matter. At Lisbon, on the 26th of January 1635.
