The officers of the Chamber (Camera) of the City of Nome de Deus, in a letter dated 28 May 1643, requested of the Council (M. de) — among other matters — that, as expected, the Council of V. (M. de V.) should authorise the commercial engagement with Japan through that embassy; they assigned three triagos (a type of cargo measure or unit of trade, equivalent to a large wooden crate or box) with luxurious appendages (Pendimentos), which could be deployed with much effect in the market of Japan.
It appears to the Council (Cons. M. de Deus) that the City should be granted consideration, especially from the first voyage that is undertaken, with the opening of trade with Japan; and that they should be allowed to purchase another [triago] for a price in gold, in the port, when they commission it at the expense of the Royal Treasury (Sua Real Caixa); and that, once the navigation is established in the market, by maintaining two years without trade, and by the goods being of a nature that would be suitable for the Lord (Donno M. de V.) to acquire.
To Jorge de Albuquerque it appears that the inhabitants of the City of Malacca, through their goods, should be entitled to consideration in the form of a grant for their own use; and that they requested of the Council (M. de) three triagos from Japan; these the Council (M. de) has ordered to be made at the expense of the Royal Treasury (Sua Real Fazenda), expending the provided sum, the price thereof and the gold in Dillo (a currency or coin); and from the proceeds of the said voyage, the Council (M. de) has ordered the payment of the garrison (Prezidio) of that City, in the customary manner, according to the orders of the commander (Emassdjo) who is stationed there; and in this conformity, the Council (M. de) declares its approval to be carried out accordingly.

(M. de V.) should authorise the commercial engagement with Japan through that embassy; they assigned three triagos (a type of cargo measure or unit of trade, equivalent to a large wooden crate or box) with luxurious appendages (Pendimentos), which could be deployed with much effect in the market of Japan. It appears to the Council (Cons. M. de Deus) that the City should be granted consideration, especially from the first voyage that is undertaken, with the opening of trade with Japan; and that they should be allowed to purchase another [triago] for a price in gold, in the port, when they commission it at the expense of the Royal Treasury (Sua Real Caixa); and that, once the navigation is established in the market, by maintaining two years without trade, and by the goods being of a nature that would be suitable for the Lord (Donno M. de V.) to acquire. To Jorge de Albuquerque it appears that the inhabitants of the City of Malacca, through their goods, should be entitled to consideration in the form of a grant for their own use; and that they requested of the Council (M. de) three triagos from Japan; these the Council (M. de) has ordered to be made at the expense of the Royal Treasury (Sua Real Fazenda), expending the provided sum, the price thereof and the gold in Dillo (a currency or coin); and from the proceeds of the said voyage, the Council (M. de) has ordered the payment of the garrison (Prezidio) of that City, in the customary manner, according to the orders of the commander (Emassdjo) who is stationed there; and in this conformity, the Council (M. de) declares its approval to be carried out accordingly.
