Methodologically, the text reconstructs a biographical itinerary supported by an examination of historical circumstances (Miguelism, deportation, the move to Ponta Delgada) and by an analysis of episodes and writing trajectories: the beginnings of his teaching career, his contestatory attitude at the lyceum, his publications in Micaelense periodicals, the material precariousness of his productions, and the composition of *Folhas Verdes* (1859). It is concluded that Teófilo Braga was shaped by a peripheral cultural "laboratory," where scholastic discipline coexisted with literary experimentation and the forthright assertion of intellectual ambitions, preparing the ground for his subsequent role in Republican culture. |
