The author argues that, between the 1940s and the 1990s, the literature of these fiction writers transforms the female condition into a historical index: women emerge simultaneously as subjects of displaced experience—marked by war, poverty, and systems of superstition and prejudice—and as agents of the reconfiguration of identities, relationships, and survival strategies.
Methodologically, the study employs a diachronic approach and a textual analysis centered on characters, motifs, and recurring images, organized in chronological sequence to observe changes in female status and agency. It concludes that exile operates as an ambivalent catalyst: it intensifies forms of oppression and violence, but also opens space for paths of autonomy, cultural learning, and redefinition of the “self” and the “other.” Thus, the narratives reveal how emancipation is negotiated through painful ruptures, in which memory, the body, and displacement become literary devices of resistance. |
