he claims that mercy was shown to him, in recognition of his services
performed in the State of India, and in the said City of Macao,
as Captain of Artillery in the said City, for a period of three
years by way of entertainment [i.e., as a reward or stipend], and because in the patents that were
issued to him it is declared that the Overseer of the General
Treasury of India would give him an oath to serve, and from the said City of Macao
to Goa is a great distance, and it is necessary to make a journey to
take the said oath, which may be administered by the General Captain
who serves in the said City of Macao, in accordance with the Royal Order.
He requests that Your Mercy have mercy and order, by adding a marginal note in
the said patents, so that he may serve the said post by virtue of the oath
administered to him by the said General Captain of the City of Macao,
in place of the oath that would otherwise be administered by the Overseer of the General
Treasury of the State, following first the execution of the Royal Order
of that patent.
It appeared to the Council that mercy should be shown, and that an order should be
given to insert the marginal notes that the supplicant requests, for the
reasons he cites, and due to the uncertainty of the journey to China.
