As a result, the article demonstrates that Portuguese America appears within the intricacies of a history of the Empire marked by transoceanic connections and by a gaze that displaces the observer from the Atlantic to the networked Luso world. It concludes that Boxer's contribution resides less in a theory of Brazil and more in a reconfiguration of the intelligibility of the Portuguese Empire through intersecting routes and historiographies. |
