Methodologically, the author proceeds through a contextual and comparative reading of sources and coeval descriptions, articulating textual discourse with evidence of the Iberian circulation of porcelain and imitations (especially in Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula) and with the visual culture of the Baroque apparatus. The conclusions highlight that images of porcelain, including stagings in courtly ceremonies, functioned as instruments of cultural translation and assertion of authority, although the commercial viability of imitations was frequently limited. Thus, the "dialogue" reveals tensions between fascination with China, strategies of local appropriation, and the historical limits of production and the market in the early seventeenth century. |
